It turns out that a lot of parents want to give gift guidance for their child’s party. But, it’s also common to feel a little awkward, and unsure of how to do it politely.

10 ‘gift guidance’ wording Examples for children’s party Invites
1. No gifts please wording – formal
“We kindly request no gifts. [Child’s name] has everything they need and is excited to celebrate with friends.”
2. No gifts please wording – laid back
“No gifts please. We mean it!If you feel weird turning up empty-handed, please don’t.Just bring yourselves, ready to make it a memorable day for the little ones.”
3. No gifts please wording – lighthearted clutter
“No gifts please! [Child] will be getting presents from family, and our house is already full to the brim 😅. So please just bring yourselves ready to make magical birthday memories.”
4. Environmental reasons
“We are challenging ourselves to make this a low-waste party. To help us out, BYO cup and no gifts please!”
5. Alternative to gifts – photos
“Instead of a gift, please bring a photo of [guest child] to add to a birthday scrapbook for [your child] which they’ll open at the party from all their friends.”
6. Alternative to gifts – saving up
“In lieu of gifts, [child’s name] is saving for a [thing]. So if you’d like to give him/her something, £1 in a card would be much appreciated.”
7. Alternative to gifts – book swap
“No gifts! Instead please bring a pre-loved book for a book swap!”
8. If you must
“Please resist the urge to buy a gift! If you insist on being a rulebreaker 😆, a homemade card, a hand-picked flower or a baked goodie would be welcome (but not necessary!)”
